Oil Price Rise Boosts North Sea Helicopter Jobs

17/04/2018 12:14:00

Demand for helicopter pilots in the North Sea sector has increased in line with rising oil prices.

Starspeed Training noted the trend after seeing a greater number of pilots signing up for its Pre-Interview Package in recent months.

The two day course aims to reinforce and refresh skills, ahead of an interview, with a mixture of classroom based and simulator sessions.

In particular, it provides an opportunity to understand and experience a multi-crew environment.

Pat Miller, Starspeed Senior Training Instructor (pictured here with Training Manager, Elly Clark), says: “Over the last three years, there has been little-to-no recruitment of pilots by the North Sea operators. In recent months that has changed and we are now seeing more jobs being posted. It is a trend that is likely to continue as oil prices remain reasonably high.

“Our course helps give pilots the best possible chance of success by enabling them to brush up on their skills and look at multi-pilot procedures; something they may not be familiar with.”

The course is tailored to individual needs and takes place over one to three days:

A recent student commented: “I used Starspeed for some instrument refresher training, having not flown procedural for a while I found spending a few days at Starspeed to be very useful in preparing for a pre-employment check ride.

“The instructors are approachable and knowledgeable and the facilities are excellent, furthermore Starspeed was able to tailor the training to my requirements.

“The time and resources spent with Starspeed, ultimately, proved to be a wise investment as I passed the check ride."
