Originally trained by the Royal Navy, Ian then moved to Hong Kong flying the AS365 Dauphin for the Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force and Police. 
 
On his return to the UK, he flew in the North Sea servicing the offshore gas fields before joining London's new Helicopter Emergency Medical Service based on the roof of the Royal London Hospital; this service provides HEMS facilities in the highly congested areas of central London. 
 
Ian's corporate and private experience was gained at Lynton/Signature Aviation prior to joining Starspeed in 2004.  After David Voy's retirement in 2007, Ian became a director and co-owner of the company where he now carries out a large amount of training and examining both of company pilots and external clients. 
 
Ian is an examiner and instructor on the Dauphin, AS355 and Sikorsky S76 helicopters.
